Rethinking Expression to Accelerate Antibody Discovery

Oct 27, 2026 | presentations

Russell Coleman, Director, Strain Engineering, Primrose Bio, Inc.

High-throughput antibody discovery can generate a large number of hits, but screening those hits in functional testing often requires soluble, correctly folded protein in quantities that traditional workflows cannot reliably deliver. For discovery organizations running multiple campaigns in parallel, expression challenges during screening can constrain throughput and extend cycle times.

This session explores integrating the Pfenex Expression Technology® platform directly into the antibody screening workflow. By improving the quality and titer of enriched antibody fragments at screening scale, up to 10x more material, Pfenex increases throughput and accelerates the functional assessment of more candidates, earlier, without needing repeat culturing.

Pfenex can be deployed as an addition to existing discovery workflows to reduce other rate-limiting steps in the discovery process, including expression, purification, and transfer of candidate molecules to additional functional groups:

  • Reduce cycle time by using better screening strains as a source of pure, soluble protein
  • Increase the number of candidates that can move through critical lead-selection assays, not just the easiest ones to produce
  • Generate expression and developability insights during lead identification before challenges come up later in the cycle
